Over 40 NOC members and 1 from DVO were involved in bringing this event to its successful conclusion: the many willing volunteers on the parking, enquiries, signing the long route to the start, running the start, finish and results and finally bringing in the controls and everything else. Our website entry system manager deserves special mention: Andrew Ridgway set up The Start Kite during Covid and he goes the extra mile in supporting the club with his excellent programme which allows entries up to late on the event day, updates the organiser and results team and helps orienteers who want to make changes to their entries.

The planner, Ant Squire, wanted to get everybody out of the brambles where we started and finished 2 years ago and he planned to get all courses onto the Budby Heath and into the central area (my favourite orienteering area) and competitors had to think all the way round. John Hurley was a thorough and thoughtful Controller and it was good to work with him.

Our sport wouldn't even have events like these without two other people, David Olivant, who updated the map, and Dave Cooke who dealt with all the permissions. NOC has always prided itself on being able to deliver great events and although we are now a small club almost half the members were involved.

Three top grade controllers from other clubs accepted my invitation to form a Jury should it be necessary and hanging around until they weren't needed - all volunteers like all the others. What a fantastic sporting family we are in!

Finally: thanks to the team from Newark Community First Aid, to the very helpful Events Team at RSPB, to Forestry England and to all the landowners.

Hilary Palmer (NOC)
